A lot of gardeners have problems with deer every year and its no wonder why deer repellents, deer fence and deer netting are a big business.  Deer will eat and destroy a small garden in a very short amount of time; people spend big bucks on beautiful landscaping every year just to have it ruined by deer.  There are ways to prevent this from happening however, the use of different plants, flowers and natural deer deterrent is just a couple.

 

Now as we all know deer eat plants, so the best advice given is to use deer fence or deer netting around the area that deer most frequent. A little research will show that deer in most cases will not eat certain plants and if you live in an area that has a large deer population then these are the plants that you may want to choose to landscape or garden with.

 

It has been listed that there are at least 600 plants that deer either find offensive or simply do not like. Interestingly sage is one plant that deer do not like and likewise the other plants include Peony, Poppy, Mock Orange and Morning Glory to name a few.

 

So these plants are considered a Natural deer deterrent and it is highly advised to gardeners and to those who are suffering from deer to grow a border of these plants so the deer will not get attracted to the garden as the planted border will prevent them from snooping inside. This works in some cases but not all, Sometimes deer will come into this protected border which is why it is advised to plant addition deer repellent plants inside the protected boundaries.

 

As there are lot of products available on the market that promise to deter deer from eating up the ornamental plants and vegetable gardens. There are some items in your kitchen cupboard and garden that can produce approximately the same result as the store variety.  One such item is chili powder or capsaicin.

At first just off keep one thing in mind that deer will literally eat anything if they are hungry enough. Deer do not like is the smell of animal or human by products and are thought to dislike blood meal. The only problem here is that blood meal has a raunchy smell that most humans usually do not like either. So if one wants to enjoy evenings in the garden, then the aroma of blood meal emanating from the garden is not at all a welcome smell but it will deter deer from entering it

 

There are many  Natural deer deterrents and repellents available in the markets today but instead of going out and buying one and spending extra money in these tough economic times try to spray some chili oil or soapy water on your plants you are trying to protect.
